Mexico's Secretary of Gobernacion, Fernando Francisco Gomez Mont Urrueta, is preparing to address Mexican and US border leaders and officials at the upcoming Border Trade Alliance's (BTA) conference on Tuesday, February 24, 2009. President Calderon's second in command and chosen leader to head Mexico's internal policy, national security, political parties, NGOs and relations with state and municipal governments will draw a huge audience eager to listen to his vision and agenda in taking on public safety concerns. Leaders will be able to interact with the Secretary to voice their concerns. This conference, a forum of cooperation aimed at finding solutions to public safety concerns with respect to North American cross-border trade, will serve as an important bridge to bring citizens and decision-makers together in the form of various forums and keynote presentations. The conference's agenda headlined by Secretary Gomez Mont Urrueta, will also feature Ms. Leslie A. Bassett, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim, American Embassy in Mexico, Senator Luis Alberto Villarreal Garcia, President of the Senate's North American Foreign Relations Committee, the mayors of McAllen, TX, Nogales, AZ, Reynosa, Matamoros, security experts, trade experts, and other US leaders.

Conference Description
By participating in this conference, attendees will have the opportunity to network with other border communities and learn about how the challenge of public safety is impacting their local economies and what is being done about it. In addition, learn first hand from federal authorities about the strategies being implemented to safeguard the economy.The attendees will also have the opportunity to provide direct input to the different BTA leaders that will be providing recommendations to the new US administration regarding the current challenges of cross-border trade and the need to improve efficiency.
